US General Ricardo Sanchez: US Politicians Corrupt & Incompetent

So, we've had some (semblance of), sleep.

So, we're not quite too tired to type up something as special as this.

US general damns Iraq 'nightmare'

Lt Gen Ricardo Sanchez said the US currently was only delaying defeat

A former US military chief in Iraq has condemned the current strategy in the conflict, which he warned was "a nightmare with no end in sight".

Retired Lt Gen Ricardo Sanchez also labelled US political leaders as "incompetent" and "corrupted".

He said they would have faced courts martial for dereliction of duty had they been in the military.

Good for you general.

(And btw, we're glad you got that third star).

Though you should have said something even stronger - even sooner.

That way, you may possibly have saved lots of lives; lives of soldiers and civilians.

Well, call me Mrs Cynical, but you've put your finger on the most salient point of all the Bush fu...mess-up years; to whit, why wasn't any of this said a lot louder and a lot sooner? We are seven years down the line of this genetic retard's misrule, after all. The countless dead and maimed Iraqis and Afghanis shall bear witness to that.

Seems to me the rats are deserting the sinking ship in droves (to use that well-worn but most apt cliche), and that the general might just be covering his back against any possible War Crimes Tribunal.

I agree with the (slightly ungrammatical but otherwise noteworthy) comment by 'anonymous @3:50 PM'.

General Sanchez was likely eager as most senior officers to invade Iraq. I suspect that his knowledge of history -- as it pertains to the Middle East in general and Iraq in particular -- was nearly as limited as Dubya's. But when the shit hit the fan (and she's still ablowin'), well sir, we gotta get out there and cover our asses.

To my utter (non)surprise, the AP version of this story carried by the Washington Post* did NOT mention the general's points about incompetent, corrupt individuals and their deserving courts-martial. Nor did the WaPo identify the group he was addressing.

Color me shocked, shocked.

Thanks so much for bringing the fuller account to our attention, OB!

Mind the credibility gap, everyone!

I hope fellow Americans are taking note.

There are very few in Congress who have any legitimate claim to innocence, as the parade of deserting rats begins, especially those who have had access to a couple of different secretive committees.
