Not all Jews are like middle east Nazis

Regarding Israel's serial persecution of the Palestinian people.

Here's hint as to how 'This Old Jew Sees It'.

NEARLY SEVENTY YEARS ago, in the course of World War II, a heinous crime was committed in the city of Leningrad. For more than a thousand days, a gang of extremists called “the Red Army” held the millions of the town’s inhabitants hostage and provoked retaliation from the German Wehrmacht from inside the population centers. The Germans had no alternative but to bomb and shell the population and to impose a total blockade, which caused the death of hundreds of thousands.

Some time before that, a similar crime was committed in England. The Churchill gang hid among the population of London, misusing the millions of citizens as a human shield. The Germans were compelled to send their Luftwaffe and reluctantly reduce the city to ruins. They called it the Blitz.

This is the description that would now appear in the history books – if the Germans had won the war.

Absurd? No more than the daily descriptions in our media, which are being repeated ad nauseam: the Hamas terrorists use the inhabitants of Gaza as “hostages” and exploit the women and children as “human shields”, they leave us no alternative but to carry out massive bombardments, in which, to our deep sorrow, thousands of women, children and unarmed men are killed and injured.

IN THIS WAR, as in any modern war, propaganda plays a major role. The disparity between the forces, between the Israeli army - with its airplanes, gunships, drones, warships, artillery and tanks - and the few thousand lightly armed Hamas fighters, is one to a thousand, perhaps one to a million. In the political arena the gap between them is even wider. But in the propaganda war, the gap is almost infinite.

Almost all the Western media initially repeated the official Israeli propaganda line. They almost entirely ignored the Palestinian side of the story, not to mention the daily demonstrations of the Israeli peace camp.
Now read the rest, as written just this past Saturday/sabbath by Uri Avnery aka The Sage of Israel.

Incidentally, honourable old Uri's website, Gush Shalom
, has sat on our blog-roll for several years -- as has Jewish Voice For Peace.

I have been following Uri Avnery for some time now. I discovered him after reading an excellent article written by him in Gush Shalom. He is someone I admire, because he is not afraid to tell the truth as he sees it!

We must hear Uri Avnery and support him in his fight against injustices committed by his government!

Thank you Richard for bringing him in our screens..

PS: Why did you decide to monitor "comments"? Did you have any problems? It can get a little tedious for you and a little annoying for the commentators... :)

Nevin, and anyone else wondering about moderation:

Unfortunately, since starting this blog a few years ago, whenever I write anything critical of Israel I can guarantee it brings out the extremists - in force. It's the only topic I ever have to introduce moderation too. You would not believe some of the filth & hate posted, and emailed to me too.

It's very common for Jews to sling the same old, same old anti-Semite slurs at me. But the real anti-semetic, neo-nazi garbage from mainly the US and UK are by far the worst.

Though it's not happened here (yet), over at my friend Gordo's (American) 'appletree' blog where I often cross post my pieces, a day or so ago I ws told by one madman thet he was praying for my death that night.

The good news is that eventually, the nutters allways get fed up before I do. Once they realise they're pretty much wasting their time 'talking to themselves' they gradually head off to anywhere they can get more "reaction".

I know it can be frustrating for commemtors, but the moderation periods have always only ever been temporary. And anyway, while it's in force I can deny one "extra platform" to the extremists, liars, hate-mongers, etc.

Please "stay tuned". // : ^ )

It's important that we remember this message. How easy it is, when describing the atrocities of the Israeli government, to generalize with words like 'Israelis', 'Jews', etc..
There are many in Israel who share Avnery's views. It should never be forgotten. When I hear of European Jews and Jewish property being attacked in retaliation for the Gaza war, it saddens me, because people who do that are emulating the Israeli government's actions - picking on innocents simply because they're the same nationality as their supposed enemy.
As for the idiots, Richard, they abound everywhere, though the British and Americans are undoubtedly the most screwed.

Add my name to what's already been said here, Richard;by you, Nevin and RJ.

Also, that picture was taken in London wasn't it? I recognise the cenotaph (tomb of the unkown soldier) in the background. Godd on them.

Gush Shalom (and a few other Jewish bloggers/sites) is my oasis. I go there when I'm so fed up with Zionism that I need to calm down a little. He's the implacable voice of reason when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians. What a man!

Yesterday he was on Jeera again, this time sparring with uber-Islamophobe Daniel Pipes. Bizarrely the latter wasn't against the war per se, but clearly against how it was being conducted - even that's mildly positive and seriously unexpected. I tell thee, something is stirring in America...

Uri Avnery is a true hero. One of a dying breed. [Present company excepted]

Dear Richard,

Washington Post: The Tijuana Analogy

Here's an article that might open the eyes of some American lurkers: best linked too from the original source ("The Fink" has been so maligned that many Americans would not believe the veracity of the article, just because Finkelstein links to it).

I'm publishing this tomorrow.

Free Palestine!
