Damn. If only that was for somebody in Wales, I'd have been perfect for the job and you'd be $1000 richer.
$1,000? A lousy £500? Jeeze, if life's so cheap in the states no wonder they show so little respect for it -- anywhere.
I wonder how long it will be before the USA comes up with privately run press gangs?
And believe me, I'm only half joking when asking that question.
Note the referral fee was to current Blackwater employees for a particular type of mercenary. This is word of mouth recruitment, not uncommon especially in the spook area, but the fee isn't all that much either.
There already is a lot of private security in the US. Most of it extremely low paying with obviously minimal qualifications, much of it is actually temp work for individuals who are still trying to find a real job.
The referral offer actually says nothing about Blackwater's actual minimal standards, only about the level they will pay an internal referral fee on.
I have to disagree with dutch. This doesn't look to me like word of mouth recruiting. It looks like a viral public relations campaign.
If you look at the qualifications, you notice that they go far beyond the real qualifications for a Blackwater mercenary. Not all are US citizens, and they definitely don't all have 8 years of experience in elite units like the SEALS and Rangers. In fact, I'm not sure that all of their mercenaries are veterans.
This looks like an attempt to communicate the idea that Blackwater doesn't just hire a bunch of drunken cowboys. That said, I'm sure they'd be happy to pay a $1000 referral fee if it gets them a guy with 8 years of Special Forces experience.
