" Bomb al Jazeera," Downing Street Memo: Brave Bloggers Take On Blair And Bush ...

..... along with more than 200 other bloggers with the balls to stand up [and be counted] to the blood-brothers, Blair and Bush.

Call it putting one's money where one's mouth is. Call it publishing and being damned. Call it what you will. But remember -- a rose by other any name.

For the benefit of any readers who may have recently been incarcerated in a covert CIA camp somewhere in Europe, or unfortunate enough to have been comatose, or have been suffering any similarly severe sort of involuntary incapacitation -- here's the bones of the brave bloggers' beef.

Another block busting briefing from Downing Street has, just lately, been leaked to the British press -- wherein written records of another rabid, Bush 'brainwave' were revealed.

G.W.B. wanted to send USAF bombers into the airspace of one of his sovereign state allies [Qatar], to blast to bits the building housing the mainstream Arab, al-Jazeera media -- along with any number of innocent journalist employees who happened to be there at the time. Yep, really. You know, an assortment of no account working class 'expendables' -- just like you and me.

But apparently Tony Blair managed, for once, to talk some sense into him and talk him out of actioning his appalling plan.

The two true-Brits brave enough to break this shocking story are currently charged with breaking the 'Official Secrets Act' and threatened with possible imprisonment -- in spite of Tony Blair simultaneously insisting that the incident in question is a merely a conspiracy theory. Eh?

But, erm, excuse us -- at the risk of being branded bloody barmy, couldn't that kind of crap quite rightly be categorized as a complete contradiction in terms? Well, you go figure for yourself.

Take a look at what today's London Times newspaper took the time and trouble to tell -- to the whole wide world.

Britain --- " The Times " --- December 03, 2005

The week on the web - By Rhys Blakely

Bloggers take on Blair over Bush's 'al-jazeera memo'

NEARLY 200 British bloggers say that they are ready to break the Official Secrets Act and go to jail to publish a memo that allegedly proves that President Bush wanted to bomb al-Jazeera in Qatar.

"We’re finding it hard to keep track of those wanting to join us. We appreciate the support and you look like a fine bunch of potential cell mates," the BlairWatch website at the centre of the campaign said.

The bloggers' strategy could complicate the position of Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney- General, who warned the media not to publish the document.

Being seen to send hundreds of ordinary people to prison over the matter could prove politically suicidal for the Government.

Read the rest here, then check out the lengthening list of bloggers prepared to publish right here.

** And, ahem -- scroll down the list a bit and see especially -- signee # 76.

So lets close with a couple of clear cut challenges, shall we?

1./ Any more bloggers out there care to come and join us ?

2./ Premier Blair and President Bush, we bloggers are ready when you are. So what are you waiying for ?

Bring it on !

Glad to see you joined too! Boy, are we going to contribute to prison-overcrowding or what?

First we need that damn memo!

What I love about all this secrecy stuff is that it never quite works and attracts attention like the red flag does a bull. Serves them right!

It looks like 'e-blogger's' glitch has been sorted out. If you had problems trying to comment yesterday, you were NOT alone. Nobody could post comments on any blog.

gert,

Yep. What a way to go, eh?

Can you imagine what a field day the press would have, particularly the Mirror? It would be manna from heaven for ALL the papers' circulation figures - the biggest UK 'humam interest' story ever.

Hundreds being jailed? From all over the country? From so may MP's constituencies? From all walks of life? From all age groups ?

Papers, TV, radio, various associations, organisations, opposition parties, Labour rebels, pressure groups and so on? Ha! The coverage and outcry would be international haedlines.

Talk about backfiring right in their lying faces, eh?

The times got it right. It would be political suicide for Blair & co.

Ah, so it was a glitch at Blogger.

I just checked and the sign-ups are now 248!

I just wish we could get hold of the memo, that's what it's all about. Privately I think it contains incontrovertible, medical proof that Dumbya is actually mentally impaired, and that's why it's so sensitive. It's a time-bomb: tick, tick, tick...

Richard & Gert,

Hahaha, It is THE way to go. All power to you and the others.

On Bush's mental state - whatever else he is, he and Cheney and Rumsfeld are classic cases of sociopaths.

Good move. I presume thousands of bloggers from outside the UK could publish the memo also.

p.dr,

Nothing at all to stop them. That's why I'm so surprised that more none-Brit bloggers haven't signed up. Especially since they won't have to run the risk of jail, like we will.

What say you? :^]

typical

while brit and other bloggers are prepared to be jailed to try proving bush is a war criminal - none of the 'professed' liberal, big boy american bloggers give a fuck

they have nothing at stake or to lose - freedomwise - but they won't even make an effort [or pretence at any] to show any support

phonies nearly all of them - they talk the talk - but talk is fuckin cheap

they are good at selling t shirts and other money making crap on their blogsites though - they make me sick

good on all you that back up talk with actions

I have some pertinent questions for any solicitor who might have dropped by...... Does the gag order imposed by Lord Goldsmith ever expire? Are Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh papers or Republic of Ireland papers covered by the order?

graniab,

While I'm certainly no solicitor I'm sure the order applies to all the UK, so while Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will be covered by it, The Reublic of Ireland won't be.

As for how long, I dont' know. I'll have to check.

enigma,

No problem. It was a super story and deserved to be widely read.

And I'll bet there are plenty more than me looking forward to the next installment.

Grania this came up in a conversation with dad a few months ago. It definitely isn't valid in Eire or anywhere outside of the UK. The governments in the jurisdictions concerned would each have to make a separate order under their respective legislation to be able to gag it.

That's why (for example) the Maggy the milk snatcher's attempt to gag "Spycatcher" being published failed.

And now back to refusing to cave in to my lord and master's demands that I actually DO his homework for him.

Him:

"But why can't you do it? You know it already and that way it would be perfect"

Me:

"Nice try"

He has a great future as a lawyer writing contracts with lots and lots of very tiny print in them.

:-) Break over back to work.

screwemall --

Sorry for the tardy post here ... I blame it on Blogger's meltdown yesterday!

But you're not quite correct that "none of the 'professed' liberal, big boy american bloggers give a fuck" about helping publish this new Downing Street revelation. John Aravosis and crew at Americablog offered to do so on November 27, along with a step by step guide to how to get the info to him. See:

st!ff,

Good on you;that's great. These smart asses holding power need to reminded that sometimes at the moment they least expected, the reigns they hold can sometimes snap. And, that once a bit gets between the teeth, anything can happen -- and usually does.

dubhaltach,
That's what I thought, thanks. Heh - re; your little brother and homework - he sounds just like my granddaughter.

Mark,

Thanks for the heads up on that about Amiricablog & the memo.
