An Assassination Talk, Afterthought ...

Cripes! Can't coincidences occasionally catch one quite completely, unawares?
After a day of considerable numbers of conversations with more than plenty of my peers, regarding raging Robertson's recent rants re; assassinations, et al -- right out of the blue, my pal Pete reminded me of this.
On this very day, 25th August, some 38 years ago came the following news flash :
Many younger readers may well not know much, if indeed anything at all, of the late unlamented George Lincoln Rockwell. But most of our - let's say, mature in years - readers, should readily recall this other reviled - though now long dead - rat. And probably, with rather reasonable revulsion too.
Here's an introduction for the uninitiated in this particular piece of American history.
But let me make it quite, quite clear at this point, for the benefit of those not yet in the know, that mad Mr Robinson was not in any way involved in this other madman's murder. I mean, I would just hate to be misinterpreted -- if you take my meaning. Eh?
The actual assassin on this occasion owned up to being on of his victim's very own, extreme right wing wallahs. Some, to this day still say -- summary justice.
On second thoughts maybe that's not really a fair question for our, shall we say, more youthful readers. So here's another short, yet rather revealing snippet.
Don't be too shocked or surprised though. Peer awhile at this particular paragraph and per-chance your initial perception will change.

Unpopular would appear to be an understatement as far as this corpse was concerned. Wouldn't you say?

I had never heard of this man. I was born in 69 and finding real American history that isn't glamorous or makes one group look great is hard. (I do miss living abroad)
Interesting story nonetheless (something for me to ponder, evil eventually destroys evil, sadly after many innoscents killed and destroyed), and a lesson the neo-rulers should think about as simp mentioned. They already have some of their generals, military personal, FBI, CIA, etc turning against them and their tactics.
Who knows what'll happen next in this live play.

Also, I've just heard this morning that he's made some amazing killings on the markets since his tirade. It seems after his speech, investments worth millions were withdrawn from Venezuela over a matter of hours - and that he'd placed millions of his own ill gotten gains in Venezuelan futures - just the day BEFORE his broadcast.
Market manipulation of the most heinous proportions.
I need to find out more before I can report further.
I'll stake my life on it being true, btw.

People seem to forget that the word is and always was, just a shortened/slang word for nationalism.
And if the US isn't the most perfect example of rampant nationalism gone mad, since Hitler's days - then I don't know what is.

More on the market manipulation - I forgot to say - sandra gave me my heads up on this one. Heh. I keep on dishing out thank yous -- but I'd soon complain if I stopped having cause too, eh?
Wow, Richard. I do remember this. Someone recently argued somewhere - I think it was Noel's blog - that only lefties were assassinated in the '60s. Ha! Also, George Wallace, at the time an unrepentant rascist, was injured permanently by an attempted assassin's bullet.

Agree that Pat Robertson's seemingly off-the-wall comment was a trial balloon. Absolutely. Pat helped BushCo out once before re McCain. Maybe Pat wants in on Carlyle like Tony - as a reward. Or maybe W threatened him with an IRS audit. What better mouthpiece to test the public's reaction? A "nut".
Someone put up a commentary at my blog from a r/w/site where they repudiate Pat. Too bad they don't see the whole picture.
Also, Richard - not to doubt you - but do you have links to the Pat Robertson "shorts"?

I still am trying (occasionally) to get info re pre-9/11 shorting of airline stocks on the DAX and Chicago Board of Trade.
It's been expunged, though I have contemporaneous notes.
Rockwell's extermin... eh... assassination still stands large in my memory. I'll never forget the look in my neighbor's, Mr. "Jinx" as he rubbed the numbers tattooed on his arm and swore in Yiddish about how the animals eat their own and how it was the only good thing about them. He could never understand how we could allow Nazis to freely spread their hate as a matter of "free speech" here and frankly neither can I. It's absurd how we allow hate mongering under the guise of "freedom".
Sandra, America's history is far more sordid than you can imagine. Our dear President's Grandfather Preston Bush was not just a Nazi sympathizer but was know as "Hitler's Banker" and lobbied for America to join the war on the side of the NAZIS along with such notables as Errol Flynn! Prior to 1941 The American Bund (the American Nazis which began as a German social club) was one of the largest and most influential groups in the country with chapters in almost every Eastern and Midwestern state! And that is just a tiny bit of the 20th century... makes ya proud to be a Yank, don't it?

I'll have to disagree with you on your definition of Nazi Richard... Nazi was short for National Socialism... not just Nationalism.... And now denotes a form of fascism reminiscent of the kind of fascism that Hitler fathered and that most people mistakenly use as a general term for fascism or equally erroneously as a complete substitute for the term fascism, as explained by my second year poli-sci prof...

I hold onto my dual national status with clinched fists. I saw enough lies, payoffs, and distortions just traveling back and forth to NYC while living in London that drive me crazy. The ex is in the financial industry and played with the big dogs.
Is there anywhere honourable anymore? Or is it a dream we all like to hold onto.

cosmic, it's a good sign when even the [traditional]cons are fed up with the neos. Re; the manipulation, the full story is on finance specialist site Al Martin Raw - but to read the full article you need to pay - and I'm loathe to do that but no doubt someone else will pick it up and publish it for free somewhere soon. We'll have to keep our eyes open.

Sandra, although it isn't anywhere near as bad over here - yet - things are heading further right all the time. In spite of us having a so-called Labour governement. Blair's NEW Labour is a con. What we need is for "traditional" labour to grab back the party, and boot out Blair & his cronies.
Noel, I whole heartedly agree with free speech, but lying loonies HAVE to be dealt with in some way - although to advocate violence against them brings one down to their level.
Lets just apply the existing legisaltion to them in an effective way. For example, I'm sure Robertson's broadcasts violate the FCC [?] rules - so someone should revoke his licence & kick him off. Also, I bet the tax man could easily 'sus' him out - if they wanted. Remember how they finally got Al Capone behind bars?
Richard, technically Robertson's and even many of Limbaugh's programs DO in fact violate the FCC rules. BUT since they are broadcast in Patty's case as "Religious Programming" the FCC gives them MUCH more leeway than they would another plain "entrainment" broadcast like say a Jerry Springer or a Howard Stern would get. And in the case of Lard-ass Limbaugh he gets to slide a lot because he claims his show is "political commentary". And it also helps when the head of the FCC is a right wing ideologue who not only agrees with you but who has been told by HIS boss, THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA (for Gawds sake!) to give them the benefit of the doubt!
If you like I'll dig up a NY Times article on the Religious Reich and their connections to Bush (INCLUDING the money trail) that was written just after Bush usurped his second term and post it here for you. Sandra, in 1931 the American Liberty League was formed by a shadowy group of the richest of American manufactures and Captains of Industry with Gerald McGuire as their front man. The public mission of the organization was to promote National Socialism as the best form of government for America and the way to get the country out of the depression and onto a strong footing.
NOTE: I'm doing this from memory so someone correct me if I screw it up!
In 1934 they actually put a candidate on the ballot, a General Butler who was a highly decorated hero from the Spanish American War, the invasion of Mexico, and WWI. Behind the scenes they planned to hold a coup and takeover the government by force, knowing that they could not win the l=election legitimately. What they didn't count on was Gen Butler being not just a neo fascist dictator type, but a genuine American patriot! He spilled the beans on the plans and the planned coup was exposed... unfortunately the only one they could get was McGuire, the front man. The REAL people behind it were never exposed or charged. BUT IT WAS CLOSE! That little piece of history is something you never hear about in history class for some reason... we'd be better off if we did though... wouldn't be in the place we are now I'd bet!

Incidentally, I've just learned the Rupert Murdoch's a big fan/mate of Robinson's too, and that he when he heard Robertson was touted as a presidential possibility a while back - he told one of his editors [Andrew Neil] that he'd be a great guy for the job. Murdoch told Neil that Mr R had "all the right ideas".
Yep! You got it right, Julie. General Smedley Butler was the patriot whistle-blower on the [seriously] planned coup.
If Sandra or anyone else who's in the dark about that does a quick google, I'm sure they'll be in for a few [very unpleasant] surprises.
I used to go to a church in Arlington VA right next to the woods where Rockwell had his HQ and across the street from that shopping center.
Eventually the county turned it into a park, but it's still pretty creepy back in those woods!
Speaking of creepy, I'm sure that a special place in hell is being prepared for "Rev." Robinson and the rest of his Pharisee friends. Guess that they're color-blind and can't read the red-font sections of the Bible.

PHEW! Thanks Richard! I was hoofing on straight memory (which for a lesbian is an unnatural thing to say the least! LOL!) and not sure if was getting it right! While there is no real evidence I have a feeling that Henry Ford and Preston Bush were on the leadership council of the American Liberty League to name but two. In fact with out old man Bush I don't see how it could have gotten as far as it did! After all, if he WEREN'T part of it he would have blown the whistle on them himself! Can't have THAT kind of competition ya know!
