Bleatin' Heart, Bush ...
It seems it needs simply the slightest sort of spat, to send some self styled super stars into sour & sullen sulks.
Apparently, over the weekend George W. Bush has gone and gotten all 'gobby'.
[Gobby's Brit slang for sullen or sulky, by the way.]
Like the late and legendary, lovely lady of the silver screen, Greta Garbo, Dumbyo now wails that he want's to be left alone. Well, This Old Brit sincerely hopes the pseudo-cowboy from Crawford gets his wish granted -- in due course, of course -- and, via due process.
Commenting on why a big tough guy like himself couldn't [or wouldn't] come out to chat with a little-lady-in- a-ditch, like Cindy Sheehan, he whimpered, whinged and whined as follows.
I think it's important for me to be thoughtful and sensitive to those who have got something to say."
Oh really, George? Then why the hell aren't you?
Then, the narcissistic nerd even had the barefaced, brazen nerve to bleat a bit more.
"But," he added, "I think it's also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life."
Forgetting for a few fleeting moments the fact that this frat-brat, thanks to his permanently pampered & privileged existence since birth, doesn't have the remotest idea of the meaning of "a balanced life" -- This Old Brit wonders how the hell it was that not one single, solitary sob of a media whore, had the balls to call him on such an utterly obnoxious [and erroneous] utterance.
God alone knows where George gets the gall.
Isn't that precisely what millions upon of millions of other people want as well? Including more than half of his own fellow Americans ? Don't they keep telling him that they too 'want to go on with life, to keep a balanced life,' -- instead of fighting, killing, dying and being bereaved via his lies-based, illegal oil-wars?
Well, don't they?
Isn't it also what the innocent, regular people of Iraq want? And what millions of innocent, regular people in Iran want, too? And isn't it exactly what the bulk of the rest of the planet's innocent, regular people want? Including those innocent, regular Palestinians whose piteous plight Bush could so easily have helped alleviate, a long time ago.
And isn't it what almost all the none-American people who were unceremoniously, dragged kicking & screaming into the murderous mess of the megalomaniac Bush's making -- by so many of their respective, self serving and despicably devious, coat-tail-hanging lousy leaders -- isn't it also what they all want?
Too bloody true it is, says This Old Brit.
But watching the way Bush's popularity at home is suddenly nose diving -- at almost supersonic speed -- it's looking more & more like lots of us may just get one of our most earnest & dearest wishes granted -- somewhat sooner than we had hoped.
I mean, before he began bleating about wanting to be left alone, didn't anyone ever tell him? Is it actually conceivable that he may genuinely, never even have heard?
"Be careful what you wish for."

Heh. Too true, Elaine. A picture no artist could paint. ;^)
simpchimp, your blog's brilliant. I've posted there. Also, see edited stop press note & link which I've placed at the end of this Old Brit blog entry today.
Hope it's ok by you.
I know "they" will always be there pulling the strings, Noel. So "we" must always remain on their cases. Drip, drip, drip, as the saying goes.
A balanced life. Like eating his vegetables.
Cindy is winning.
Richard, thank you so much for getting Cindy's story out to an international audience. As you know, I've just returned from Crawford, and it really was an amazing experience. So many people coming to support Cindy, and to share their stories with each other. There were many parents and wives and other relatives of soldiers, some who have died, others who are still in danger. A man who had been in the Korean War said he was still having nightmares after 55 years. Another man broke down, holding his stomach, sobbing, while he held a photo of his son. An ex-soldier who had been in Iraq began crying when talking about the children his mortars had killed. There were Texans who came by just to say they supported us.
It was a loving, peaceful, accepting group. No violence or anger was expressed except by the poor souls on the other side of the road, who kept shouting, "Stay the course," or "We don't care." Even though they got the same news coverage as the hundreds on Cindy's side of the street, there were very few of them, 50 for a half hour one day, about ten another day.
I encourage anyone who can, to visit the encampment for a day or two, to support not just Cindy but all who want this war to end. You will be greeted with open arms and will be moved beyond tears to have been part of such a gathering.
I think about the huge ripples when even one soldier is in Iraq, much less killed there. It is not just the parents who suffer, but the grandparents, the cousins, all their friends. People can't sleep or eat or laugh with ease until the loved one is safe, which takes years. If the loved one dies, imagine how much worse it is. If the soldier survives, he and his family suffer repercussions the rest of their lives. How many know that as many Viet Nam veterans killed themselves after the war as were killed during the war? How many children suffer because their fathers or mothers spend the rest of their lives fighting war demons? How many of them would give anything for just a day of the "balanced life" Bush finds so necessary to his well-being?
In this country, more and more of those people are beginning to say, "Whose fault is this?" And even those from gung-ho backgrounds are beginning to know the answer.
And then we look at the Iraqis. Every one of the over 100,000 who have died and the tens of thousands who have been maimed have the same ripples. And none of those people have to overcome years of conditioning and our complicit media to know immediately "whose fault it is." Will any of them ever again have a "balanced life?"
So much utterly needless agony and suffering have been caused by this small handful of monsters in the White House. It is heartbreaking.
Well Richard, if nothing else Bush is consistent!! He showed himself to be an utter idiot and thoughtless boob in his first campaign and since then he has grown into that role becoming a heartless moronic simp. What more can we expect from a "man" (and I use the term with caution) who's father ran for president because his father & wife made him do it and a mother with the moral compass of Frau Himmler? Do we really expect a boy who was given everything, earned nothing, and who's biggest challenge in life was how to avoid life's responsibilities to act any different? How can a coward face his own murderous mistakes? How can a traitor look into the eyes of the mother of a young man who gave his life following his illegal, ill-conceived, poorly planned and incompetently executed war?
He can't. He can't be expected to any more than we can expect him to tell us the truth despite the fact that we now know the depth of the lies he told us to justify dragging us into this useless and ruinous war. The man who sits there in that Crawford Ranch is not showing us anything different from what he was... only the clear plain face of what he has always been.
The days of the Religious Reich are nearly over. DeLay and others in the top echelon are going down one indictment at a time... They are already beginning to turn on themselves, splitting their ranks over weather to support Richards for the Supreme Court or not, on which hate amendment to vote on in the California initiatives and running from the DemonCratic challengers in half a dozen races. It's pathetic, they are like a bunch of sharks at hatching time gobbling up it's own young with relish.
It's no time to relax and watch the show by any means! Hell, now is time for every one to roll up their sleeves and get involved to help shape this shit ball of left-overs before the loonies get control of it completely! Cripes... anyone who doesn't get involved NOW doesn't have any room to gripe when they don't like the way things turn out in 2006 and again in 2008!
elaine - did you see the media reporting of that guy shooting his gun? its appalling - i posted some of it here
even the 'better' papers in the US made a complete mash of the story - eg here's the sub-head from the Boston GLobe: "Actions by both sides, spotlight from media said to be disruptive"
jeebus.
cosmic, I agree with Will Pitt when he says, Cindy has already won.
GW backed himself into a corner & a lose/lose situation.
I see the police & SS carted the loony-shooter away, Elaine. Not far away enough though, I bet.
As usual Noel, the nail head can't ever escape your hammer.
Harper, I do whatever I can in my own small way.
What you have done though, is in no way 'small' - quite the reverse in fact. I have nothing but admiration for you - and your travelling companion/friend - and for all those others who made the same efforts AND sacrifice.
I'm proud to know you. Really,
Everything you say is so true, Julie.
Especially, that those who do 'nothing' should never, ever complain about anything that may befall themselves [due to Bushco] and/or their families in the future.
Besides that, they are letting down EVERYONE else - big time - including their own nearest & dearest. How will they be able to live with that? Actually, I hope they can't.
hey! i was first to say that bush couldnt win vs cindy! there is no good outcome for him.
Everyone, I have to say ths. Thank you all for taking the time & trouble to compose and make your remarkably insightful comments - here on this blog. Please be aware how much you are appreciated - by myself and by the many, many other regular readers who habitually follow the 'proceedings' here.
Incidentally, thanks to those of you in that category too - please keep coming and please keeping 'passing it on'.
simpchip, your blog is brill. I edited the end of this particular blg entry to includec a 'stop press' note and link to you.
I hope it's ok with you. (I also posted this info there.)
lukery, to give credit where it's due - you're right - you were. I'm glad you were right, too.
Thanks Richard. I speak from experience. When Prop 22 was on the ballot out here I joined the steering comity of Californians for Same Sex Marriage and worked as the "girl Monday thru Friday" for Michael Thurber, the co-chairman. When it became clear that CASAM was going no where at light speed he and I and LJ Carusone and my better half Andrea joined with Marriage Equality in New York in NYC creating Marriage Equality California, Marriage Equality New York and later Marriage Equality USA (I know... kinda backwards to start the state chapters first). Although Prop 22 passed... it was not by the huge margin that was initially forecast. I like to think that MECA had some small part of that.
By the time I left MECA/MEUSA because of my health we had chapters in New Jersey, Colorado, Wisconsin, and we were building chapters in 7 other states including Texas and Utah.
A couple of years ago MECA joined with a couple of other of the larger Equal Marriage organizations here in California and became a core member of Equality California.
So I'm not talking out of my ass when I say that things can be changed IF people will just get off their lazy asses and actually DO the dog work it takes to make the changes. And as someone who still does everything she can to make those changes happen, it gripes the hell out of me when I hear some dweeb of a self styled pundit throw his/her arms up in the air and say "WE can do anything about it! The PTBs have it all locked up!" That's bullshit Richard, that's as cowardly a cop-out as Bush dodging Cindy Sheehan behind all those weak excuses. Cindy Sheehan doesn't believe that and neither do I!
Hmmmmm... I think I just inspired myself from my next 1/2 Kracked Kup!
KUDOS Harper! That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about! You actually took the time and paid out the expense to get off your DUFF AND GO TO CRAWFORD TO SHOW CINDY SUPPORT!
It's estimated that less than one tenth of .oo1% of those claiming to be "politically involved" who actually get out a DO SOMETHING! Imagine what we could do if we could get that number up to .oo1%? WOW!
And as Richard said Noel, You nailed that one squarely! We need political carpenters like you to keep the masses thinking and keep the pundits from doing their thinking for them! We have 30 years of Jerry Fallwell and the rest of that ilk to root out if we want to truly weed the fascist seed from our government. Jefferson, Madison and John Jay and the rest of the founding fathers made that perfectly clear from the Federalist Papers on through their published editorials and private papers... religion has no place in government! Today we are suffering the effects of only the very mildest form of that particular political poison. I dread to think of the horror of a full dose!
Ummmmm Richard? Where I wrote " self styled... arms up in the air and say "WE can do anything about it! The PTBs have... " should have read " self styled... arms up in the air and say "WE CAN'T do anything..." My bad!
Lurky... do you actually try to get NEWS out of American NEWS papers?
**doubles overlaughing**
This blog is great and so are all you people. I'm passing a link on to everyone I know.
Keep at what you're doing, and God bless you all.
juliedee - lol. i was kidding.
and nope - there is no news in the newspapers.
i just heard that someone in car ran over all the white cross at campcasey. good grief. part of me wants the whole thing to turn into a circus to keep the attention on it - but im also concerned that the message gets distracted...
Great link thank you.
Watched an interesting documentary on Adams when Jefferson was his Vice Pres (in those days runner up got that postion to help keep it honest). Anyway Adams (A Federalist) put in laws very similar to the Patriot Act, tried to start wars with France with false intelligence (he had his admin fake it) for profit, prestige, and to grow America's infleunce. He took over the papers and had members of congress and paper execs arrested that spoke the truth against his lies. Jefferson and most of the opposing party (the Democratic Republican party)had to flee the capital and he did road trips encouraging people to make leaflets with the truth and hand the information out (todays internet)and to keep strong. It took some time but once election times came around the Federalist lost big time and no longer exist(they didn't have electronic voting, I don't know how we are going to get past this hurdle)
Almost every state in America is having trials and investigations on local state governments on illegal actions and illegal hiring and illegal money. And I'm not talking about people sneaking into the nation undocumented. Americas system needs a over haul when it comes to campaign money and lobbyist. The people are not being represented anywhere in government. My local Congressman didn't even know he was running, didn't campaign and he won. My state governor is embroiled in finance and hiring scandals, and I have not met a soul that voted for him.
History is repeating itself in its ugliness and sadly the worlds citisens have to pay for a few megliamaniacs. A good reason real American history isn't taught in the schools here, perhaps.

http://evangelos.us/understandtheanguish.html Another good article on how people are taking this BS. I personally am noticing a lot of hostiliity and pissed off people here in KY. You see it in their body carriage and the way they talk. They know they've been duped in the most horrendous way and don't know what to do. They come from all walks of life and all political affilations. Some are in denial and are pissed (natural reaction, your suppose to be able to believe your government) and others are just lashing out. I just hope and pray this is over soon, with no more blood shed.
Sandra, thanks for you're [usual] insightful post.
How many times, I wonder, have how many of us said how different things might have been - if only we could turn back the clock?
Sometimes it really does sem as though we're all travelling backward rather than forward.
anonymous, thank you so much for that link - and welcome.
Such is the super- pulling-together of that piece, I strongly suggest everyone sees it.
Here's the link again.

I'm beginning to wonder if Cindy hasn't now made her point with the Crawford Camp Lukery and should move on to phase two (hoping she has a phase two!) now. There is such a thing as milking it TOO long and that can backfire on her.
Sandra, here in California it's no different. Some times we wonder why we should even bother to vote with way things are done now. By the time we get off work CNN, FOX, ABC and CBS have already announced who has won... and 90% us haven't even voted yet! Never mind the poor people in Hawaii and American Samoa! The Electoral Collage have out lived it's use fullness, until there is an ACCURATE paper trail electronic voting is nothing but asking for fraud and the silly idea of having one day form 8 am to 8 pm to vote is absurd! We should have a 24 or even a 48 hour Election Day(s) thereby not only making it possible for everyone who plans to vote to be able to but those who might become encouraged to vote because they are unhappy about how the vote is turning out will have ample opportunity to do so!
Can you imagine the turn out numbers we'd start getting? Right now it's about 5% of the potential voting public who are making the decisions for the entire country on Election Day. Five percent. Scary ain't it? How do you think politics would change if that number were 10%? Or 20%? Oh heck, since we're dreaming, let's dream BIG and make it 45%... If 45% of eligible voters actually got off their duffs and actually voted, what do you think that would do to American politics?
Great link Anon! If only life DID have "do overs"...
Julie, Cindy's stated plan is to (a) remain at Crawford intill 31st of the month. If he still hasn't come out to talk to her by then,(b) she's going to follow him back to the White House, and continue waiting for him there.
Lots of candlelight vigiles around the US tonight. Our MSM most likely won't touch it, like most of the war protest. I am a Republican by nature, but I cannot support these LIES and voted for none, as though we really had a choice :< Almost all the candidates are the same, they get their money from the same places and support lobbyist and corporations over citisens that is why turn out is so low. People know there are many problems. But the media frames it as a left thing, when that is not true. It just keeps the country divided over ignorant things.
Julie I've lived in CA(LA), CO, NY, KY, MN in the last 6 years and it's all the same and rather frightening. The counts don't match what people say and MSM ignores this very important fact.
I plan to move back to the UK in Nov (dual national) though I can't vote, at least it's a more honest press and election system. Not Utopia, but to live in at least a little honesty is better than 24/7 propaganda.
Sandra in the lost US
I really like this site Richard, thank you. Differing views and experiences help things come. together
Thanks Richard. Musta missed that some how... chalk it up to the drugs (GODS how I'd love to be rid of them!). I hope she can keep it fresh. If she can't she'll loose not only her press coverage but her position in the hearts of the nation as well. She runs the risk of looking like a crazed stalker or worse yet, giving the dirty tricks gang time to build a whisper campaign against her in DC... and build from there. It wouldn't be the first time they've made a saint look like a sinner.
I'm FAR more of a conservative than the neo-cons on the real issues myself Sandra. Heck, my wife says I'm just to the left of Attila the Hun! Hehehehehehehe! I was in fact a Repugnican before the UnHoly Trinity of the Ultra-Rich, Far Reich and the Religious Reich completely took over the GOP. We've thought about moving to Canada, it doesn't feel like people like my wife and I are welcome here sometimes. But that's a temporary thing and I'm a true blue patriot. I couldn't desert my country... especially now that our nation needs people who can think for themselves and believe in what our founding fathers created and can't be cowed into spouting the government line. Don't get me wrong, I'm not faulting you for leaving! God knows there are reasons aplenty to! But for me, it's just not something I could do... at least not now.
juliedee - the good thing about sheehans' strategy is that she has a simple plan, and she has pre-announced it. nobody doubts that she has the requisite 'resolve' to see it through, and nobody doubts that the president is too 'stubborn' to change his mind - thats why bush lost the game on day 2 (he could never meet with her anyway, because he could never fake the necessary empathy).
Thanks, Phil. Welcome. Stick with us - the more the merrier.
And thanks, Sandra.
Who knows, if you ever get near to Liverpool/Merseyside when you come back over - maybe one day we'll get to have a nice 'cuppa' together. :^)
True Lukery. Bush has lost this one and Cindy is gonna be his albatross for some time to come I guess. I just hope she can keep it fresh with the press. I understand on the gossip line that Republican money is pouring into her home town to fund a counter protest. Nasty nasty nasty... with Rove's pudgy fingerprints all over it.
Cindy has a lot of support, both at Crawford and around the country. The rightwing detractors are throwing everything they can at her -- her pending divorce -- accusations of being "used" by others -- motivating people to counter-protest and to even do destructive things like destroying half of the crosses one night this week.
They've blast-faxed all the radio talk shows with this stuff and spewed it all out to their vast email network.
Cindy has handled it well, with clear explanations where necessary, and a message of empathy and understanding to those who do not agree with her.
One night this week there were around 1650 vigils held for Cindy and the cause, in communities all around the country, every state. They were well attended. Thousands of people were involved. The more ugly stuff that comes out, the more support she gets. And people keep coming to Crawford, some for a day, some for longer, but people keep coming -- all kinds of people. That includes Iraq Veterans and active duty soldiers. Those who can't come are sending supplies and flowers.
The most recent news is that Cindy's mother has had a stroke and Cindy has left Camp Casey and headed home to care for her. But Camp Casey will continue.
A nearby rancher has offered an acre of land for their use which is actually closer to the Bush Ranch, so they will no longer have to pitch their tents in a ditch. And they cannot be evicted by the county (where efforts were underway to privatize the county road and close access to them). I believe the move to the ranch was made Thursday.
Rosemary, thanks a lot for the update.
Here are some great pics - ones that MSM will not publish.
Allow time to load - plenty of photos here.
