**** CARLY'S POEM ****
A Nation Rocked to sleep
by Carly Sheehan,
Sister of Casey, KIA 04/04/04, Sadr City Baghdad
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
The torrential rains of a mother's weeping will never be done
They call him a hero, you should be glad that he's one, but
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
He must be brave because his boy died for another man's lies
The only grief he allows himself are long, deep sighs
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
They say that he died so that the flag will continue to wave
But I believe he died because they had oil to save
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
The leaders want to keep you numb so the pain won't be so deep
But if we the people let them continue another mother will weep
Noel,
It just shows people are taking notice [including plenty of the right sort] and the true facts are getting out there. I'll go read your blog's account of your encounter shortly.
Don't completely crap on Nixon Noel. While he di do Bu-cu wrong, he also did a lot of right. He did get us out of Vietnam and he did get us talking with China... while his cronies robbed the treasury. But that's an entirely differently argument!
Thanks Richard for posting that. I was hoping some one would start something along those lines! According to the latest Pew Foundation polls the pendulum is starting to swing the other way HARD using the key question "Where do you stand on the Gay Marriage question" (I don't remember the exact question but I think the story is on my news blog, if not it will be)... and surprise, surprise! The numbers on the question are exactly the OPPOSITE of where they were last year! Add to the the fact that DeLay was finally charged this morning and viola! You have all the indicators of a change of direction! I guess the American people are tired of waiting for that Fairy Tale America that Bush promised that just isn't happening.
I'm just afraid it's going to go too far the other way in response. SHEEZE! Just what we need... Dump the Far Right Fascists only to replace them with a bunch of Lunatic Left Liberals! AAAAAAAAAACK!
Don't lose any sleep over that, Julie. The US will get which ever leader the corporations decide they need, at the time. And, it will never be a loony left liberal. It will never even be a left liberal. Probably never a true liberal either.
I think the best you can hope for, in the forseeable future, is a better actor-salesman.
I am delighted to see yet another post about Cindy Sheehan. She is a remarkable woman. I think that she has really touched a nerve here (US) as the conservative talk shows have been spewing vitriol. Sean Hannity, a Fox regular sack of .... excrement is threatening to travel to Crawford to set up an opposing camp. The attack dogs are out - but it's too late - her support grows daily
Saw GWB on tonights news outside the ranch and re this poor bereaved mother he started talking about using force in IRAN, with a playful smile he said he understands this womans point but still would go into Iran even tho its difficult for the "comm. in chief" to put KIDS in harms way!!! I almost choked on my dinner, What right has he even to refer to these brave men amd women as KIDS!!!
cindy was on the front page of the Independent today (online at least), and was on the nightly tv news here in australia. i guess that officially makes her a story - and theres no way to get rid of her.
she 'gets it' too - she is basically hoping that he doesnt meet with her - that would actually hurt the cause by deflating it. as i mentioned above, he cant meet her, so i dont think she has to worry about that possibility (altho i was surprised to hear him say her name)
Really!
I visited a conservative blog today. The motto:
Comforting the comfortable and afflicting the afflicted since 2004.
Talks about renting a jaguar, Bombay gin, bla, bla, bla. Oh, yeah, and they dig at Cindy Sheehan. And then, in the same paragraph practically, use the phrase "quality time with the [meaning their]family". Talk about a disconnect!
Cindy has the upper hand, tho. No doubt about it.
I am still upset.
Ev, the truth is he actually sees them as something much less than kids - more like sacrificial lambs - for slaughter.
P.S. Are you my old friend Ev, in Canada?
The Corps aren't quite that well embedded Richard. There is still the will fullness of the people to contend with here and when the loony left gets going they can be EVERY BIT as controlling as the Far Reich! We'll go from the New Fascists to the SuperNanny State! If The SuperNanny's get their way we'll have to buy a license to buy corn chips and there will be a law mandating the minimum number of miles on has to jog each day!
Already they are licking their non-animal tested lip balm covered lips in anticipation of all the laws they can enact for the public good! Already they have restricted our legal right to smoke to where we have to sneak around like high school kids and grab a puff in the bath room... IN OUR OWN HOMES or face arrest! OK...OK...that's only in Utah... but it really will be HELL under them!
