Lord Bingham : Iraq Invasion Illegal

Iraq war 'violated rule of law'

Former attorney general
Lord Goldsmith defended his legal advice

Legal advice given to
Tony Blair by the attorney general prior to the Iraq war was fundamentally "flawed," a former law lord has claimed.

Lord Bingham said Lord Goldsmith had given Mr Blair "no hard evidence" that Iraq had defied UN resolutions "in a manner justifying resort to force".

Therefore, the action by the UK and US was "a serious violation of international law," Lord Bingham added.

Don't ask us how, but we've somehow managed to summon up sufficient super-human strength to stop ourselves from taking to the streets, screaming to everyone in sight: "We told you so."

Isn't it amazing? If one of us commits a wrongdoing we're hauled before the courts and duly punished. No question about the veracity of the law there.

When they commit a wrongdoing - even when glaringly obvious - the whole function of law comes into doubt. Even the so-called 'experts' can't agree.

It's so simple: the pre-emptive invasion of another sovereign nation is a flagrant act of aggression, as defined under international law.

No-one needs Lord bloody Goldsmith or Baron bleedin' Bingham to tell them that. Well, unless your name is Blair, of course, then probably you do.

Just look at those photographs! Good Lord! Who do they think they are?

Yup. It's the same old, same old.
One law for "us" but a different law for "them".

Goldsmith got the top law job for no other reason than he was an old Uni-pal of Blair's.

They were actually bunk buddies & flat mates in those days. And did you know Goldsmith is, like you and Blair's wife Cherie, a Liverpudlian?

War Criminals Bush/Blair and Co will never be punished. The law is on their side! Never mind all the lives they ruined without even a wink. Never mind how they diminished Iraq into Stone ages. Never mind how they created torture chambers around the world and legalized torture in the name of War on Terror. Never mind how they pissed off millions of people around the world. Never mind how they stepped all over the US Constitution. Never mind how they are continuing to kill civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world. Never mind....

If only they all spent a little more time thinking and less time dressing up...
