American Israel Public Affairs Committee [AIPAC] - George Soros Speaks Out ...

George Soros certainly isn't the sort of man who is stupid enough to speak about something he doesn't understand.

No way, Jose; that's not how multi-billionaires are made.

So, as soon as we saw this story today we were completely convinced - in an instant - that we should share it.

US-Israel ties bad for peace:

George Soros, the billionaire investor, has added his voice to the debate over the role of Israel's lobby in shaping US foreign policy.

In the current issue of the New York Review of Books, Soros takes issue with "the pervasive influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee [AIPAC]" in Washington and says the Bush administration's close ties with Israel are obstacles to a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians.

Soros, who is Jewish but not often engaged in Israeli affairs, echoed arguments that have fuelled debate in academia, foreign policy think tanks and parts of the US Jewish community.

"The pro-Israel lobby has been remarkably successful in suppressing criticism," wrote Soros. Politicians challenge it at their peril and dissenters risk personal vilification, he said.

Now, amble along to Al Jazeera English and acquaint yourself more fully with some all too seldom discussed (at least sensibly and publicly), Israel-US facts -- financial and otherwise.

The truth is that much more open debate on this AmericanIPAC con takes place almost EVERYWHERE except in America.

I've always found that inexplicable. Unless regular Americans are very dim or very scared of being labeled anti Semite -- regardless of whether or not they are. More folk should call the lobby's bluff and stand up and take them on -- head on.

Lies and liars need to be exposed as lies and liars whether they're Israeli, US, UK or others.

Good find Old Brit.

The links between Israel and America, and indeed, in some part, to the u.k., have caused more suffering and death than almost any other event on this planet.
The creation of modern day Israel, the wars of expansion and aggression, were mostly fueled by american money and weapons.

It seems like Soros has realised that the plan to dominate the world by force is not working.

One other thing, Judaism is a religion, not a race.
Some jews might be semites, the vast majority are not.

For certain, if/when the american economy goes into freefall, then Israel may have to change its` ways, and may even cease to exist.

It's heartening to hear that Soros is publicly joining the ever growing ranks of those who have grown tired of 'buttoning their lip' or risk being labeled antiSemitic. Of course the latest high profile name to eventually do so was ex President Jimmy Carter.

In Soros' case of course, a different 'old favourite' label will need to be applied - and it will be pretty soon I wager. 'Self-hating' or 'self-loathing' Jew.

What took Soros so long is what I'd like to know.

Hi dear Richard,
Excellent articles and links as always. Soros will make a difference in US politics. Just wait for the next 2008 elections. Nothing will stop the tide and the neo-cons ultra-zionsits will be sorry for all their greed and contempt for others...

I am certainly pleased to hear Soros speaking out like this, just like I welcomed Jimmy Carter's badly-needed book.

I believe I have seen more open criticism of Israel among ordinary people in the United States in the last 5-6 months than I have seen in my entire (long) life. Before that I kind of doubt most Americans were even aware of the potent powerful Israeli lobby in Washington.

The combination of the charge: "anti-Semitism" and the many subtle and not-so-subtle reminders of the Holocaust were very effective for decades. How many popular films ....?

Frankly, I have mixed feeling about this: On one hand, tactically I wellcome any criticism of AIPAC, which furthers the debate, doesn't matter what corner it comes from.
On the other hand, I don't need Mr. Soros, a repugnant international financial speculator, (basically a bloodsucking leech), to tell me the significance of AIPAC's stranglehold on the American government.
Let me be very clear here: I hope both AIPAC and Mr. Soros ends-up in a very hot place, sometimes in the future.

One thing i never understood is why people who actually fought and helped defeat the axis of ww2 should be made to feel guilty about what happened.
