Iran-UK Sailors Stand Off Sorted; Civilised Common Sense Diplomacy Prevails ...

So, we see some pure & simple common sense, once applied properly, soon sorted this stupid shambles out.

Surprise, surprise, eh? Not.

Amazing how things have a habit of turning out right when all adults involved actually behave like adults, ain't it?

Well, we're pretty sure most people have by now read at least some of the hundreds of headlines regarding this sorry saga's apparently happy ending.

Still, just in case anyone around here has been temporarily comatose ...

Here are three short related reports we consider worth reading.

BBC link 1.

BBC link 2.

BBC link 3.

And there's this simplified summary of both versions of events, which we feel is well worth while giving a gander.

So, warmongers please note; diplomacy won the day.

No winners; no losers; no needless dead.

Not exactly brain surgery or rocket science, was it?

Diplomacy? Nah, it'll never catch on in America, Brit. MIC and good ole oil boys will see to that.

Glad your boys are all ok anyway.

Of course, the a US Naval Commander asked why the British soldiers hadn't fired on their captors, rather than allowing themselves to be captured. And of course, some warmongers in the American press let out a big cheer for the commander.

Let's see if this attitude makes sense:

"You were outnumbered and outgunned, so why didn't you start firing? You could have triggered a war! Why didn't you fire?"

It's pretty sad how many people seem to think that the word "smart" means the same thing as the word "cowardly."

I'm lovin' it.

BushCo are havin' rings run around 'em -- and they don't have a clue as to who [or how many] they are that's running 'em.

I'm wholeheartedly relieved and happy, that this issue solved so well, and relatively so quickly.
I hope this resolved incident will now serve to deepen peaceful feelings between the British and the Iranians.

BTW. It was smart to muzzle G. W. B.: Last time he opened his big mouth for detainees, (in the incident, when a US spy plane collided with a Chinese fighter off China, and had to make emergency landing in China) irked the other side so much, that it cost the crew an extra 2-2½ weeks incarceration, while one American special envoy after another gone to China, humiliating themselves and beg for resolution behind closed doors.

Incidently, I've found this short editorial article from one of my favorite compillation news and comment site, originally issued by the Islamic Services Organisation.

I fully agree, with the premise of the editorial, namely the importance about the act and the feeling of forgiveness toward others. I'd like to add the distress I feel about, how the Judaised West has forgot those shared Christian-Muslim values.

***when a US spy plane collided with a Chinese fighter off China,.....

tomv***

here is a good account of the spy plane fiasco.
china and the us blamed each other's pilot for causing the collision, but the fact that even taiwanese airforce pilots testified on the reckless manuvring of us "top guns" who frequently intruded into taiwanese airpace is rather revealing. [i once had a link to that testimony too].

Ha. Talk about Iranian propaganda. Having been fully "debriefed" an obviously prepared (not by themselves, I'll bet my life) statement, they all look a lot unhappier than they ever did while held in Iran.

According to the staement, one of them can catergoricall state that they were the (official gov/MOD) excat 1.7 nautical miles the right side of the border.

Bollocks. They're now back at work - doing what the bosses tell them to do. What else would anyone with half a brain expect them to do and say?

Thanks denk, that's an interesting article with an alternative view, bringing up a few enigmas I wasn't aware. By a cursory look one would suppose, that the slower propeller-driven airplane with the larger wing-surface area would be stable during its cruising speed, while a jet-fighter would have stability problems at those speed, causing the collision.

Still I agree, that chances are that all is not told to us, and the last 6 years of ceaseless lying and disinformation which spewing out of the mass-media on behalf of the government, made me much more suspect, than I was at the time in 2001 spring, when that 'incident' occured.

Here is another link related to the release of British Marines from Iranian detention by actor/director Terry Jones. It refutes the crude mass propaganda surrounding the case, but this time by that famously biting, acidic English humor.
No hoods. No electric shocks. No beating... by Terry Jones

Hello tom v

You are right,
Whether that ship was in iran or iraq water is irrelevant,
The point is, “whats it doing snooping at iran’s doorstep?”

We should ask the same question about that us spy plane over hainan island, rather than which pilot was at fault in that collision.

Just like HMS Amethyst in 1949, they have no business picking a fight at somebody’s doorstep, 2000 miles from home.
