Special: US & UK War Crimes: Sick, Shock And Shame Edition ...

*

Here's how we feel right now.

Today, we tried to run before we could walk, so to speak.

You know, we overdid things -- proper post-op recouperation period -- and all that palava.

Crazy couple of creaking codgers -- we should have more sense at our age. After all, we're damned well old enough to know better than to (try) do what we did.

Anyway, the result was a bit of a relapse.

But now, tonight, we're even sicker. And shocked. And ashamed.

Wondering why?

Well,
here's one reason why.

And here's
another reason why.

So, as we said -- sick, shocked, ashamed.

But enough of us for now.

How are you feeling?

Better or worse than you felt before following our links?

I used that picture of the deformed Vietnamese child in an article I wrote on Sparrow Chat about three years ago. Unfortunately, it was when the site was on Blogger. When I moved most of the archives were lost. Of course, in three years not a lot changes.
Well done, Felicity Arbuthnot, for writing that letter to Douglas Alexander. I will link to it on Sparrow Chat. Most Americans, of course, have no idea their country even imposed sanctions against Iraq during and after the 1991 war.

Richard, Sophia and G.Guides, thanks for all the tireless work you (and others) do to help educate all those still blissfully unaware of the NEEDLESS realities of some of our fellow human beings' completely "man-made" miserable lives - and premature deaths.

I agree with what you say, R.J.A.

But I must add that most Americans do not want to know about this. Nor anything else which shows them in a bad light ~ no matter how true it is, and no matter how much so many others around the world are fully aware of.

Just like alcoholics, your average American flatly refuses to admit there's anything wrong with their country's bad habits|behaviour|problems. And just like alcoholics, untill they 'wake up' and 'face up' nothing's going to change them. Nothing. Ever.

I'm sickened, shocked and ashamed too Richard. But more than that, I'm bloody angry as well. Especially since all these things have been done in "our name".

Also, I eventually want to see you become This ANCIENT Brit, not This LATE Brit. So, slooooow down .... pace yourself .... please.

phil--

You're so right. As I write this, Barack Obama is in hot water because his wife didn't give the usual "America is the greatest country on earth" platitude during a speech.

brit,

Take care of yourself. We only get one of you.

A lot of us Americans have been sick and ashamed of what has been done in our name for a long time.

I am not so sure that we can be shocked any more though.

It's always the children who get the worst of it in any war, isn't it? Why anyone can think that any of it is noble is beyond me. Even when it is necessary which is far more rare than any hawk believes, it's still always the children who suffer worst and those who survive it carry the scars into the next generations.
