Gillian Gibbons:Sudanese Stupidity Latest: Fundamentalists Say Shoot Her:Demand Death By Firing Squad ...

Shoot UK teacher, say protesters

Gillian Gibbons was sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation

Thousands of people have marched in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to call for UK teacher Gillian Gibbons to be shot.
As any regular readers of Richard's 'Old Brit' blog are already well aware, we are not in any way, shape or form intolerant, extremist, fundametalist, racist or supremacist zealots, nor have we ever been known to be.

But when we learn of armed extremists taking to the streets and demanding the death of a British or any other nation's demonstrably decent citizen - for any reason at all, (via Sharia law) let alone a particularly simple innocent mistake that has harmed nobody - we say it's time somebody sorted out such a shambolic, scary state of affairs.

And before the loonies, zealots, fundamentalists and extremists begin wasting any more of their time and efforts mailing us, let's get one thing straight.

Whether any armed mobs roaming the streets baying for such unholy, barbaric demands of death are Muslim, Christian, Hindi, Buddhist or even followers of the now fabled Flying Spaghetti Monster, matters not a single iota.

The time has come to tell such wretches, in whatever way(s) it takes, that enough is enough and the end of the road has (almost) already been reached.

If such violently unruly people's own government's internal forces can't or won't even genuinely attempt to install law, order, control or whatever, of mobs (for that's all they are) of bloodthirsty, ignorant, uncivilised criminals -- then some urgent assistance should be offered. And be offered sooner rather than later.

Be such assistance officially sought or not.

It's hard to know what to say. As I read this, and the BBC News report, I felt I must have been transported back several centuries.

Ms Gibbons must be devastated and very frightened - and her family must be frantic.

I don't know much about the quality of current British politicians, but they need to summon both balls and wisdom - not always an easy combination. Doing or saying too much could endanger Ms Gibbons even more, but doing too little isn't really an option.

It's dreadful and dangerous.

The quality of British politicians?

They send British lads to Iraq to fight and die in a US instigated illegal war and brutal occupation, in order to ingratiate themselves with the US administration as they simultaneously help swell the coifers of big oil, big Halliburton, big Blackwater and the big Military Industial Complex. As well as the wallets of far too many [criminal] war profiteers to list here.

And that's to say nothing of the 'dodgy donations' to the Labour Party, started under Blair and now proved to have continued unabated under Brown.

I could go on, Twilight ...........

Things have probably gone downhill fast politically, while I've been in the USA. I always used to feel that our politicians could be trusted to do the right thing, in most circumstances. British politicians still seem to me to be like Supermen comared to this lot in the USA.

Let's hope that in the present case they don't let Ms. Gibbons down.

These people eat their own. Perhaps they should be treated to some hospital food, if you take my meaning.

That demonstration was organised. Staged theater, almost.

Teachers at the school say that naming the teddy bear Mohammad was not Gibbons's idea.

They say no parents objected when she sent them circulars about a reading project that included the bear, introduced to the class in September, as a fictional participant.

Gibbons spoke on Friday with her son John in Britain by telephone, he said.

"One of the things my mum said today was that I don't want any resentment towards Muslims," he said.

I've added my take on this situation on my own site. While in no way condoning the idiot rabble rousers screaming for blood, the whole crazy scenario plunges much deeper than just a poorly-named teddy bear. I have no doubt Mrs Gibbons will soon be out and returning home to her family. The world situation that created this fiasco will not be resolved so easily.
