Ex US President, Jimmy Carter; On Palestine, Peace, Apartheid And Israel ...

This old Yank, Jimmy Carter ex President of the United States of America and long time, well respected world-wide, Nobel Peace Prize winner, has a well-worth-reading as well as well informed, personal opinion piece published in today's Guardian.

Here's a bit from it's beginning.

Israel, Palestine, peace and apartheid

Americans need to know the facts about the abominable oppression of the Palestinians

The Guardian

The many controversial issues concerning Palestine and the path to peace for Israel are intensely debated among Israelis and throughout other nations - but not in the United States.

For the past 30 years, I have witnessed and experienced the severe restraints on any free and balanced discussion of the facts.

This reluctance to criticise policies of the Israeli government is due to the extraordinary lobbying efforts of the American-Israel Political Action Committee and the absence of any significant contrary voices.

Here's a quick clip from it's middle.

What is even more difficult to comprehend is why the editorial pages of the major newspapers and magazines in the US exercise similar self-restraint, quite contrary to private assessments expressed forcefully by their correspondents in the Holy Land.
And here's an excerpt from it's ending.

Another hope is that Jews and other Americans who share this goal might be motivated to express their views, even publicly, and perhaps in concert. I would be glad to help with that effort.

I always liked Carter. But he's been demonised by so many for so long that it shouldn't surprise anyone when it starts again. He's touching on a US taboo. Still, the truth is the truth no matter how unpalletable to some.

Say anything mean about Israeli politicians, policies, actions - and suddenly you're labelled an anti-semite, called a Nazi and all manner of awful things.

It's so predictable that's it's actually begining to backfire in many places. It's becoming a cliche filled script.

Even progresive Israeli leaders have to beware of what they say in their own country. Each time one's come along who actually started talking seriously about getting along in a civilised way with mid-east neighbours ~~ they've been assassinated.

Richard, don't forget that our friend Tom Rushing at Current Era blog posted a very interesting item on the same 'touchy' subject too. It also is well worth reading

Letter from James Abourezk, former US Senator from South Dakota to Jeff Blankfort on the Israel Lobby

Hmm. Seems plain speaking is rather contageous right now.
Now James Wolcott also gives a nod to Carter's frankness.
I think something is definitely backfiring somewhere

You're right. The Brits and Europeans always were and always will be filhy Nazi apologists. Same as (so called American) liberals like Carter, Wolcott and plenty of other anti-semite scum.

Blair Is A Coward

John Pilger: His most damning verdict on Tony Blair

By John Pilger

01/29/03 "The Mirror" --- -- William Russell, the great correspondent who reported the carnage of imperial wars, may have first used the expression "blood on his hands" to describe impeccable politicians who, at a safe distance, order the mass killing of ordinary people.

In my experience "on his hands" applies especially to those modern political leaders who have had no personal experience of war, like George W Bush, who managed not to serve in Vietnam, and the effete Tony Blair.

There is about them the essential cowardice of the man who causes death and suffering not by his own hand but through a chain of command that affirms his "authority".

In 1946 the judges at Nuremberg who tried the Nazi leaders for war crimes left no doubt about what they regarded as the gravest crimes against humanity."

This is a reprint from nearly four years ago and clearly illustrates the reality behind these pimps for the war industry and their pompous words

Getting their ducks all in a row-
US to double emergency equipment stored in Israel
"The emergency stockpiles are meant to store American military equipment in the Middle East in case of an emergency. However, in case of an emergency, Israel is allowed to use the stockpiles.

snip

A great portion of the American equipment stored in Israel last year was used for combat in the summer war in Lebanon."

I think that last line should read, "the summer war ON Lebanon"

Read this. Carter's book is being called "Mein Kampf" by certain US folk.

Engelhard: Carter’s Book is Mein Kampf, Protocols
