Crap Coney Island Insane Crassness ...

"Only in America!"

Yes, we know it's an oft overused, corny old quote - that's why we almost always avoid using it.

However, from time to time we absolutely, positively have to make an exception.

Today, is one of those times.

WATER BOARDING AN ATTRACTION AT AMUSEMENT PARK

NEW YORK (Reuters)

A man with a black hood pours water on the face of a prisoner in an orange jumpsuit strapped to a table: no, it's not Guantanamo Bay naval base, but New York's Coney Island amusement park.

Amusement?

Jeezus H. suffering Christ!

Just how sodding sadistic can some slimy, sick shits get?

Read the revolting rest of this Reuters' report, right here.

These kinds of things were widely popular in the Roman Empire, etc.

Congratulations, you've figured out what I've known to be true for a long time: humans are incredibly perverse animals—not machines—that are unfit for civilization.

But don't worry; in a few decades, water-boarding will be the least concern of the people who don't leave behind a permanent shadow:

Don't understand why you feel the need to apologise for saying Only In America.

There's plenty of evidence that this kind of behavior is widespread outside of America.

In fact, I understand it's popular in the Islamic sphere, too.

Anon, what evidence? Cite some.

Also, only in America would the term "Islamic sphere" be used.

Guess what most of the rest of the world would say?

But if you read the article, the display was put together by an anti-war guy. He wanted people to see firsthand what kind of cruelty we put people through.

And not a bad thing, either. This See No Evil mentality is one of the reasons this war drags on and on - because the American people don't get the news from our "news" organizations.

I have to agree with Denise. Perhaps the artist's intention would have been clearer had he set up his work in a museum or art gallery, but Coney Island gets a lot more foot traffic. (Spongebob Squarepants is a cartoon character who has been attacked by the religious right for some moronic reason I can no longer remember.)
