I don't know whether to give a boquet or brickbat for this.

The filming and release of this video is designed to inflame a violent section of the Iraqi people. There is no way that this could have happened without official i.e. US involvement all the way.

I couldn't bring myself to watch, but I'll be very interested to see how long it remains online.

I think the longer it does, the 'righter' griffon will be.

Hi Richard here's a sneak preview for you:

Christmas came late to the White House this year.

Feel free to save that cartoon and send it to anyone you think might have a use for it :-)

First off happy Christmas (yes Christmas) and New Year wishes to Richard and friends. I hope you're well Richard, I haven't been around for a bit.

Saddam's execution is absolutely disgusting, and quite frankly an affront to the world.

Ah! Now I understand it all perfectly. (NOT). This is how the so-called civilised deal with those they accuse of being uncivilised.

What a sick upsidedown world we have the misfortune to live in.

If there realy is a 'next world' I hope against hope that it is better than this one.

You know what's so funny (in a sck way)?

It's that Saddam didn't feel a thing, since the video shows how lightening fast it all happened.

In fact Saddam doesn't even know he was excuted/murdered/whatever. Nor does he know he's dead.

"Death? Where is thy sting?"

You can not have capital punishment AND call yourself a 'civilised' country. If you do, you're lying to yourself. Execution is nothing more than state sanctioned murder.

Richard, while I understand completely you saying you've nothing to add to those horrifyng pictures, may I suggest that everyone reads these headline op-eds from all over the Arab region.

Press fears over Saddam execution

Newspapers in the Arab world and Israel reflect a combination of cynicism, anger and fear over the execution of Saddam Hussein.

Thanks for the link, Anonymous.

I found this editorial entry ironic. From-
TARIQ AL-HAMID IN PAN ARAB AL-SHARQ AL-AWSAT

"The timing of the execution was unfortunate and upsetting. The execution reeks of a disgusting sectarianism. What we saw was revenge. Unfortunately, the democratic government in Iraq is similar to al-Qaeda, showing off the footage of the person being executed....."

The timing was deliberate and planned by the US as was the timing (and substance) of the verdict. It is designed to look like "disgusting sectarianism".

The revenge was Bush et al's.

As for comparing the Iraqi "government" with al-Qaeda in showing videos of executions, well, what do you expect? They are both fronts for the same people - the same people behind all the killing - Bush et al. These people celebrate death which makes them the enemy of mankind.

i think this is a blessing to the heavens for the iraqi people, finally they don't have to fear a devil any more. i don't think this will inflame any type of violent, but hopefully help the malici government to rule it's people in a heathy way--by eliminating the tirant-evil-doers. i think we should focus on bin ladin--where is he? the same thing should happan to him...

His blundering enemies have managed to make Saddam, (translation: 'the defiant') a martir, who gone to his death with great dignity, and who will be mourned by many.

This is another example that the merciless, Talmudic/OT spirit creates, and will surely re-creates its own enemies endlessly.

I as a Christian, don't feel happy about it, no matter how many jackal will laugh loudly and whine sharply in the corporate media circus, and in spite that I'm fully aware, that Saddam was a cruel and deeply flawed man in his own time.

And Saddam was OUR man who served US well (for a lot of years) until he was no longer needed.

Never forget that.

If what we witnessed here was not pure unadulterated terrorism, NOTHING is.

As ever, violence only ever begets MORE violence.

Love him or hate him Hussein was more of a man than any of that baying mob.

He showed dignity and bravery

Richard and everyone else, this is a MUST read Saddam/Brit/Yank governments, report by Robert Fisk.

[Saddam] takes his secrets to the grave. Our complicity dies with him

How the West armed Saddam, fed him intelligence on his 'enemies', equipped him for atrocities - and then made sure he wouldn't squeal
Published: 31 December 2006

We've shut him up.
The moment Saddam's hooded executioner pulled the lever of the trapdoor in Baghdad yesterday morning, Washington's secrets were safe.
The shameless, outrageous, covert military support which the United States - and Britain - gave to Saddam for more than a decade remains the one terrible story which our presidents and prime ministers do not want the world to remember.
And now Saddam, who knew the full extent of that Western support - given to him while he was perpetrating some of the worst atrocities since the Second World War - is dead.
(snip)

Full shocking story at this link.

Yes, xxx, I was very impressed by the Fisk piece. There was detailed information in it that I believe has never been published before.

Thank God for Fisk and his being where some of the action was so long ago and for keeping his old notebooks!
